What Are Crowns & Bridges?

A Crown is a dental restoration that covers a tooth with a new material, such as various plastics (only temporaries), metals,  porcelain or New Zirconia and combination of materials. You can consult with your Prosthodontist  & Dr Steier about best materials  advantages and shortcomings of each material. A crown replaces the outer layer of enamel & part of the dentin layer  and is contoured to be sized and have the same function of a perfectly natural tooth. A bridge, which is made of the same material as of a crown, is used to replace one or more missing teeth, using functioning teeth on both sides of the missing tooth. The crown is the best and most durable alternative to restoring a tooth with significant loss of tooth structure, if done right you may never know you have a crown on the tooth.
